Trd Shocks For a 3rd Gen 4runner

Hello Toyota Brothers,

I am in need of new shocks asap. I want the Bilstein but they are pretty expensive. I found a website that carries TRD Bilstein shocks for about half the price of the aftermarket ones. I did a search here and the Taco Trd Bilstein are different but someone also said that the 4runner TRD bilstein are the same. Can anyone confirm this? This is the link to the subject.

Here are the part numbers. Thanks for any help.

00602-48511-027 4Runner 4WD 96-02 front (pair) $69.95
00602-48531-028 4Runner 96-02 rear (pair) $69.95

have you checked out shox.com? they sell a set of 4 bilsteins for $269.80 according to the website. That's pretty much what you'd pay for the TRDs you found.

edit: oh, those prices are for pairs. That's way better than shox.com.

The TRD package sucks. There is no TRD package for the 4runner. I would get some KYB's for stock replacement shocks

Thanks alot guys. Here is the link to the trd bilstein shocks. Maybe they are aftermarket bilstein? Could they be Taco shocks that will fit my 3 gen 4runner? Also their prices seem to be 69.95 a pair. Retail on these says 129.95 for the front pair. Thanks again.

Call them and get the scoop. That is an amazing price if it is true.

The front strut will fit both the 4Runner and Taco, but the rears are different. That is my understanding anyway. Which makes sense when you think about the design differences in the rear suspension between the two (leaf vs. coil spring).

The aftermarket Bilsteins that are for the 4Runners/Tacos are actually stiffer than the "TRD" package versions that come on the Taco. That can be good or bad depending on preference.

Old question, but what are the differences between the Bilsteins and KYB's, other than price? I've heard that the Bil's are stiffer than stock, so how do the KYB's compare?

Hmm, those look very appealing if true. Has anyone called them to see what's the deal? Also, do the 3rd gens 2wd and 4wd have different shock parts, or the same? I've searched for Bilsteins but mostly only found some with descriptions for 4wd. Will they fit my 2wd?

I couldn't ay about todays KYB's, but I put them on my 2nd gen in '94 and I may as well have clamped the old shocks in one position. GEEZ, they were stiff!!! But I liked the handling. Too many riders thought I was nutz...

Well, I just tried to email them and my message got returned as undeliverable, no such user. I also tried to process an order, and their server bombed out before I could get a total price. Seems strange to me, they have a nice website.

Does anyone know if TRD Bilsteins also have the lifetime warranty?
I was able to get to where it asks me for a method of shipping, but I didn't submit my order. I'll try giving them a call tomorrow to double check that pricing. I don't want to order and then be sent only 1 front and 1 rear shock or something like that.

I got to the same screen and that's where it bombed out. Please let us know out here so we can get some orders in, you can't beat the price if they're for a pair, I know I'll order some.

I called them up but could find out any difference between these shocks and the afermarket Bilsteins. I did place an order anyways. You best bet is to call them and place an order.

Just want to confirm that these prices are for a pair, not for each, before I order. When you ordered, they came in pairs, correct? If so, that's an AWESOME deal!

I just ordered today but they said that they are pairs. 159.00 total to Sacramento CA. I am going to call Bilstein in a sec. and see if they can give me more info.

I just received my shocks today. They seem to be regular aftermarket Bilsteins. The part # on the shock matches with the model #'s on this site.

I did receive both front and rear shocks. What a deal. Better get them before they are gone. Thanks

I put 4 bilst. on my 3rd gen with a 3" susp. lift and 1" body lift and I could not be any happier with the handling. Now the bilst. with out a lift, I would not know.
