TRD elocker swap

2003 Taco, v6 4x4 manual extra cab. I looked on a few different forums but just got confused.

Could I take the TRD locker diff out of a 97 or 98 and swap it with mine? Are the gear ratios the same? Would my drive shaft bolt right on? Not sure if the donor truck is 4 cyl or 6 auto or manual.

Now here is where it gets complicated. I just replaced bearings and seals, brakes and wheel lug studs on my rear axle shafts. It would be so much easier if I could just unbolt the axle shafts from my diff and put them in the TRD elocker diff.

Is any of this possible or am I better off spending my time trying to get Megan Fox to date me? Thanks for your time guys

The TRD diff will not swap into an 8.4" axle housing.

Just swap the whole axle over and wire up the locker.

So what you guys are saying is that my axles will not just slide into the trd diff because the TRD axle housing (the place where the axles slide in?) is bigger? I'm a little new to the terminology. When you guys say 8.4" and 8" what exactly are we refering to?

Unbrakeable -

you will need to buy an ENTIRE AXLE. as in Differential, axle housing, brake lines, drums, axles, etc etc... it will swap right over. but you cannot put an e locker diff into an 8.4 axle. the e locker diff is only an 8". hope this clears things up.

8" etc. refers to the diameter of the ring gear:

8" and 8.4" are two different sizes and won't interchange. Plus to put an e-locker differential into a non-elocker axle housing you need to modify the housing to accommodate the e-locker mechanism. So swapping the entire rear axle would eliminate that hassle as well:

Awesome, but I'm not trying to fit a elocker into my stock axle housing. I guess I kinda confused everyone with my wording. I dont want to just swap the guts around. I guess when I said TRD diff and not TRD axle I dun goof'd.

I'm buying the whole axle, and just wanting to slide my AXLE SHAFTS into the trd axle, not replaceing any of the guts, or opeing up the diff in any way. I'm no mechanic and "inside the diff stuff" scares me.

So what I want to do is take the whole TRD axle, guts and all, bolt it to my truck and slide my 2003 axle shafts with my new bearings, brakes and seals into the TRD elocking axle. The axle shafts should be interchangable?

Need all that including the wires, and i dont think bearings and axle shafts will swap cause the 8.4" is actually a little longer that the 8"

My auto wrecker tells me that the shafts are all 30 spline and the same, regaurdless of TRD or non trd. The only difference I could run into is ABS sensor. If mine is ABS equiped and the axle housing is not then I will have to get my abs rings out. But if it is a abs housing then my shafts should work? Argh.
