Transmission Sounds

I have a 205,000 mile 2003 Tacoma 2.7L 4x4 with the 5 speed. I've owned the truck for a few months now, and just noticed a sound coming from my transmission. It sounds opposite of a throw out bearing... When I push the clutch in, the sound goes away, when I release the clutch it comes back, the "whirring/humming" sound seems to increase with rpm change. There is no chirp sound that everyone complains about, truck doesn't slip out of gear, everything seems very normal, other then the sound.

I recently purchased it from a single owner who has paperwork of taking it to the dealership 20,000 miles ago for the service which included a transmission oil change. Checking the levels, they are still at the top, the oil that came out looks brand new still.

I'll attach two youtube videos showing the sound.

Someone will have some ideas for you...

My first instinct is that it's still more likely clutch related than tranny related, but I'm not sure. Obviously you'd expect the reverse if it was the throwout bearing...noising when depressed and quiet when out. It's been a long time since I've had to mess with a clutch so I'm a little rusty, but it seems like there's probably something somewhat obvious going on there with a clutch bearing. Could it still be throwout, but it's sitting a little wonky on the clutch fork? And depressing it presses it harder against the clutch and takes away the slop?

OP I am dealing with the SAME EXACT issue that you’re having and I just made a post about it.

It feels like it should be easy to narrow down to a couple obvious things, but I'm no expert. Surprised other people don't have ideas for you.

I hope so. I’ve made a post on the marlin forums too but haven’t gotten a single reply which is frustrating. Someone’s had to of had this issue before and fixed it. Did yours just randomly start happening?
