This was going to start as a this is how you swap your tranny filter but quickly turned into someone gave me the wrong part. I have a 2002 4Runner with a 340F auto tranny or at least the door jam sticker thinks so. On the tranny the Aisin p# is 0304E and according to advancedauto parts website to even get close to the filter I have it's a 343F which I'm unaware of such a model. While I have it torn down and am home I wanted to swap the filter, now it sits there mocking me as it has done so many times in the past.

The A343F tranny is a relative of the A340F. it's the one used on the UZJ100 and the KZ/KD/RZ/VZJ95 Prado. The filters for both trannies are the same. For 1996-1999, the filter PN is 35330-60020. For 1999-2002, filter PN is 35330-60030.

edit: if in case what you originally bought was the 35330-60020 and what you you need is the 35330-60030, would be so kind to take a pic of both filters and maybe tell us what's the difference, and maybe some measurements of the differences? I have a 1996 model but I don't know if the newer filter would fit.

I know what you are going threw. I had the same issue when i changed mine (02 sport). I got fed up with Advance Auto. I went to Napa and they had a catalog that had pictures of all there filters. I thumbed threw it until I found one that was the same. It ended up being Napa part number was 1-4271. I hope this helps you.

 

And another thing, in the Chiltons book it calls for 2.1QT's of ATF fluid, the pan holds almost 1 gallon by itself. I added 2.5 QT's and oh yep who would have know misshift and delayed angagment. I added another the remaining 1/2 a QT and still some slipage yet another Qt later the fluid level on the stick when hot is where it should be cold. So I have a 2.5 hour run tomorrow I'll check when I get there and add accordingly.

Since the truck has to be running when you check the tranny fluid, I always ensure that my level is correct before I drain the pan, then I add back what I removed. That's a good starting point. I then get the tranny up to normal temperature, and check the level again.

You don't always have to replace those filters either... they can be cleaned. Opinions on Yotatech regarding cleaning vs replacing tranny filters are mixed, though.

PS. You have an A340F. The A343F came on some Land Cruisers.

 

Good to know but it's been about oh 80-100K miles since the last change and it twas time, and the filter for the A343F is was my A340F takes. If you look up most parts places listings for our vehicles there are quite a few filters available and many P#'s. So my 02 4Runner uses a filter that supposedly fits a A343F, wrap your brain around that one.

Mine takes the bottom filter as the bolt patterns and feeds on the back are different. If it happens to be a 2wd there are even more filters. As far as a reading before you start this is valuable, not to mention to remove the dipstick and keep yourself from wondering why you can get the filler hose disconnected. As for just plain getting the filter that matches your door sticker, good luck!

It's no problem getting it from Toyota, though.

Also, I wouldn't use that gasket that comes with the kit. I'd use FIPG for a better chance at a good seal with those low torques on the pan bolts. "The Right Stuff" by Permatex is what I use. It is awesome.

 

Too late now, but the one I pulled was a rubber one as well I could see where the original had been removed, never had a problem with leaks though I'll keep my eyes peeled. As for the toyota part I would hate to order it from toyota parts sales just to have the wrong one arrive in florida, pan on the floor awaiting the correct one. I'm not sure what the dealer charges but I guess I could have checked.
