My coworkers has a 2000 4Runner SR5 4wd. It's a V6 with an automatic. He bought a used transmission a little over a year ago, and is having problems. I know of a good transmission from a 97 4Runner, and I'm curious if it would work for him. I checked ToyoDIY.com and the part numbers for transmission assemblies are different. For the 97, the part number is 35000-3D350, and for the 00, it's 35000-3G030. I don't know 3rd gens as well as some other models, so I've come to you guys for some input. Will the transmission from the 97 work in the 00? What are the differences? Any help would be appreciated.

 

I have a 96 with IPT valve body for sale now actually. I was gonna use it in my 2000 4wd but decided to instead build mine.

The casing is the same between both of them, externally they appear to be the same, same electrical connections ect.

Internally the only difference is the valve body that I could see. They are different designs but have the same number of noids. So in theory it should work, the question is if the the ECU will throw a code or not.

 

I just finished an install of a '97 auto tranny into a 98. The major difference of course is that the 4wd in the 97 is a manual transfer case where as the 98 and above are push button into 4hi.

Everything lined up perfect and normal 2wd worked like a charm the first time. In order to get the 4wd to engage we had to locate the wire in the harness that engaged the front hubs, and then send those two wires into the cabin and hook up a switch. We just poked a hole in the rubber sleeve around the transfer case sleeve, ran the wires into the center console and put a switch next to the rear window button.

Now to engage 4wd I have to flick that switch, press the "4wd" button on the transfer case lever, and then manually shift it down to 4hi. Not that big of a deal and everything works proper like it should.

If you do decide to go through with it I can shoot some pictures of the wire we found that electronically locks the hubs up front allowing you to go into 4wd and how we finished off the process.
