Which Transmission

Hello,

Hopefully someone can let me know what transmission I have. Specs: 96 Tacoma 4x4, 4cyl, std cab. I have the 3RZ-FE motor. I have not been able to find what transmission was used with this setup. I see lots of write-ups that say the R150F was used behind the V6 in that year, but nothing about which transmission was used with the 4cyl. I am considering turning the truck into my project, since it will no longer be a daily driver next year, and I want to start researching some of my options.
Thanks.

It is posible to put the stronger R-series in with the use of different bellhousings but your w-series should be just fine as its also a very nice transmission

Will the w-series hold up to the torque of a Chevy 350 or 4.3Vortec engine? That is one of my ideas. Never knew that swap was done until I found this site.

The Tacos have chain for the W series trans? It doesn't follow the older trucks with a gear driven case? Do they even make gear driven cases anymore?

Heres the T-case bible
http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/tra.../tcaseinfo.htm

They only make the chains for the tacos and 4runners. no more gears
