Transfer case fill plug part #?

Hey all,

I searched and didn't see this so sorry if it is on here somewhere. I need the part number for the transfer case fill plug and gasket (?) if anyone can help out.

It is for a 1997 4Runner V6 w/ auto trans. I took it in for an oil change and the dude said the plug is just gone (prob. previous oil change they did not replace it).

So I need to flush the transfer case and refill it, but need to order the plug assembly first so I have it.

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you know the number for the plug itself?

Go to YotaYard on Walnut St. near downtown and yank the plugs out of a case there. I just dropped my old T-case off there a couple of weeks ago with both plugs in it. I say that just to say that I know they have T-cases laying around there, and I'm sure you could find one there for less than you'll pay a dealer parts center for them.

Wait, so you've been driving around with no transfer case fill plug (i.e. an open hole?!?)
Hopefully you didn't go up any really steep hills... you could've lost quite a bit of your fluid, and be driving around with a really low level in the transfer. Good thing the oil change guy caught it when he did... hopefully no damage was done.

i think he meant the bolt is being rounded off. The bolt can get rounded pretty easily if not open properly. I like to use impact for to untighten at axially position, prevent from rounding.

Get a allen socket head magnetic drain plug...work much better and less chance to strip them out. On my website.

In regards to being clear, I was. My plug is gone as in not present! I topped up the transfer case fluid and got another plug to put in already. Need to flush it out and refill still though.

Crap! I was right. (That's worse for you than if I was wrong.) How much gear oil did you have to add when you topped it up? (PS. I apologize for assuming that you weren't clear.)
