transfer case 99 Limited

I have a 99 4Runner Limited that I can't get the 4wd to work. I believe someone put a 2002 transfer case in it. It has the push button 4wd button but no J pattern just straight forward for 4lo N in middle and then 4hi towards the rear. Can I make it work in a 99?

Could be 96-98 Tcase, which is more likely. In either case, you'll need to change the tcase to the correct one. If its 01-02 it will have a ONE large plastic plug with like 10-15 pins on it. If its 96-98, it will have 2 separate plugs, one for the motor itself and one for the sensor.

You need to find a Tcase from a 99-00 Limited which will have THREE plugs. One for the motor itself, and TWO sensors on the housing.
