Sounds like a very long shot, because we are talking about two different engines. Look into regearing. Maybe 4.56s or 4.88s would help you out. Not to say I'm not curious about the answer to your question though.

Considering the automatics are electronically controlled by the ECU I would say it wouldn't work. I've had both and I did like the 5 speed in my 05 auto way better than the 4 speed in my 96. If my truck were worth more I would probably swap the auto out for a manual. But considering it's a high mileage winter beater anyhow the auto stays.

Mynameistommy510- Accomplish nothing really but if it bolts in I'd try to find one and figure out how to make it work this is my first auto tranny in a suv/ truck. The 4speed is crap in my opinion I just don't like it. Drove my buddies wife's 07 4runner and loved the way the tranny was. Now I came from a 07 frontier with a 6speed manual and the 4.0 v6. Just don't like the 4spd sluggish and I think it holds it back just weird feeling
