All these re-hashed threads seem to be about Runners, although it's almost convinced me to do this for my Tacoma.

However, I'm having trouble clarifying whether an external transmission cooler serves as a supplement to OEM radiator cooling, or as a complete replacement, bypassing the OEM radiator cooling altogether. The latter scenario has been what I was assuming, as it provides complete separation of coolant and transmission fluid, although the TRD transmission cooler install write-up here leads me to believe it is only a supplement to OEM.

Can someone please clarify this? Thanks.

If your Taco was a V6, they are identical in engine and tranny I believe. The transmission is bullet proof. The stock heat exchanger is the weak point. Just bypass and keep on truckin'.
