Hi all,

I have a 2000 SR5, 5 spd with about 60K miles.

Last week while driving my car I noticed

that the engine revs up between 2000-4000 rpm without

feeling any acceleration while in gear. It’s like putting the car in neutral

and pressing the gas. After the 4000 rpm mark, the tranny

engages and I feel the car picking up speed.

At first this was happened in 4th gear, but last night

I felt it in 2nd and 3rd.


Please let me know what could be wrong with my car. I thought

it would be the tranny or the clutch, but I not sure.

It’s just that my car only has 60K, so I didn’t think this would happen

so early in its lifetime.

5 spd manual? Sounds like a burnt clutch. I guess a clutch could go at 60k depending on previous clutching habits.

 

Clutch. The girl I bought mine from must have been horrible at driving a stick as my clutch needed replacing at 66K miles. My 4R did the exact same thing you just described.

definitely a slipping clutch, and while OEM's are great, I believe our OEM clutches are made by Excedy, they can be had a little cheaper that way, you could even go with a stage 1 or 2 performance clutch if you so desired, but I dont know if you want to go that route...

 

I picked one up on ebay for like $177, and it's done me fine for around 10k miles now. After replacing it, i kindove wish I upgraded from OEM. Marlin crawler sells a clutch that has 1200lbs of holding power, opposed to the 900lbs of stock. http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/tra...ion/clutch.htm it's $299. Other than that, I can't say i've had any experience with other clutches.

Replacing the clutch is a pain, but it's not terribly complicated, and doesn't require any speical tools

 

the hayes supertruck clutch kit from summit racign is great. i havent had good experince with the quality of the stock toyota clutches. I had oen and after 100 miles the clutch disc actually was coming apart not wore just made crappy and it sucks to have to put the truck back up on the lift and do it all again only 1000 miles later. Transmission jacks are nice though.
I got my hayes from summit racing for i dont remeber how much but it was under 150 bucks andi think osmeone on here right now has a brand new kit for sale if you look in the market place
