i was always wondering when my hitch was going to become a clearance problem off road because it seems to hang down a little more than some and low and behold, it did this last time i went. i was backing up in a rut and it just dug straight in. from these pics (i can take better ones if needed) can you all see anything i can do to raise it up or is it a lost cause and i just need a new hitch where the receiver tube isn't below the hitch frame itself? thanks for checkin

you could try this out but you would have to cut out a sec of the bumper. you could make it round and line it with vaccum hose and it would look clean! other than that, fabbin a rear bumper with the hitch built in may be your only other option

 

i have a hitch where it doesnt hang below the main tube. It is alot better. Mine isnt set as far under the truck as yours but if i had done it myself thats how i would have done it. Id says just get one where it doesnt hang under the main bar like that and it shoudl be good.

 

ive seen that before but unfortunately i think my hitch is all one welded piece and doesn't unbolt except from the frame altogether. if that is truly the case (ill check tomorrow) then it looks like im out of options short of cutting off the receiver tube and rewelding it even with the crossbar

you dont want to do a bit of trimming on the bumper?

 

i dont mid trimming the bumper but the way my hitch is (i think), it is all welded together. all those flipped hitches unbolt at the crossrail, and mine is welded. if i flipped the entire hitch, i couldnt even mount it and if i could, it would be up inside my bed.

 

so your hitch must hang down then? makes since...the runners are pretty "flat"

 

yeah it does which is why i think mine is a unique case. looks like im out of options short of buying a different hitch

 

My T100's doesnt hang down as low as his tacos but it is lower, I cannot flip mine either as its welded up.

 

I think the lights will be an issue long before the hitch.... If you use it regularly just realise that even though it drags it still does you a ton of good.

 

the lights hit when my hitch hit but the lights easily fold away and dont get damaged. by the time i'd actually get to the point of ripping the lights out, i'd have my hitch very deep somewhere. im gonna look at it this weekend, maybe i could just cut the crossmember, flip it, then re-weld it. i dont know if its worth the effort but we'll see. thanks for the replies

 

Without the hitch there, which will take the hits, your flimsy OEM bumper will get ripped off wheeling...and those lights would be toast. Lots of band-aid solutions out there, but IMO, only real solution is aftermarket bumper to incorporate the hitch and move the lights.

 

i love having me hitch because if i didnt have it i would have ripped off my back bumper so to me it doesnt really matter that it hangs that low.
