the yaris has been produced for a while in europe and other markets. i really hope they put the celica out of its misery, in my eyes they killed it off after 1985.

celicas gone horray!!! that thing should have been dropped many many years ago they ahve been around forever
anyways woud MUCH rather have a tC than a celica...tCs are pretty nice vehicles...and theres a bolt on supercharger
new supra should come back...mazda brought back rotary (to the states atleast) nissan brought back the z. the only thing missing is the supra...from the import cars
domestic we have the old style new mustangs, new gto, charger...

the only thing i don't like about the tC is the targa style roof, where it looks like glass from front to back... other then that, it is a very, very nice car... and well worth the low price tag.

I agree with you...1985 was the last good year of Celicas. I own a 85 Celica GTS Convertible and love it! It was ahead of it time for the year, name another car in the price range that was made around the same year with the following stats:
Multi Port Fuel Injected 4 cyl
5 Speed
Rear Wheel Drive
4-wheel independant suspension
4-wheel disk brakes
Limited Slip diff
Power: Windows, locks, mirrors, AC, Top
10-way adjustable seats
Climate Control
32mpg
Really, there were only a handfull of cars that could claim these stats, but they were much more expensive: Corvette, Supra, 300ZX, Conquest / Starion.
None of which would get 32mpg though. The Celica was the slug of the bunch, but had great torque.
I had a Honda Del Sol with a 1.6L engine that would hand the Celica its A$$ on a plate...But forget about taking off in 2nd gear, going up hill in high gear or using the A/C...It was gutless until you hit 4500rpm - 6500rpm...anything under 4500rpm, you were dead in the water.
Gimme low end torque over redline horsepower any day!

I'm looking forward to the all-new RAV 4. I need a new (bigger ) DD to replace my little Protege5 and I'd love a Toyota. They need a proper CRV competitor, the outgoing RAV4 is just too small.

I was looking for a late 80's Corolla (Hatchback GTS 16Valve trim, RWD) prior to purchasing my Celica. Those suckers are demanding $4.5k for a decent one! I picked up my Celica (see Avatar) for a screaming $2,700!
Drifters are starting to buy up a lot of the old RWD Japanese cars, in turn driving up their prices.
