So that one filter fits all them toyota engines mentiond?

 

Not trying to argue but I just changed my oil one day ago and my OEM filter had been sitting all night and it still drained all over the place when I twisted it loose. Normally I would get the engine warm and then drain it but I was in a time crunch and had to do it when I could - stone cold engine after being parked over night. The filter had not drained back in my case.

I use Toyota 90915-YZZD3 filters on my 3.0 and they have been very good to me so far.

 

Yep, the same filter also fits my mom's '93 inline 6 Lexus GS 300 and my dad's '98 Lexus LS 400 v-8.

 

interesting...on my 22RE, it does drain if left sitting overnight.

i wonder if it is a difference in how the filter is mounted on the engine (22RE v. 3.0) or something?

 

I have taken oem filters off of engines that have been sitting for a very long time, and they are still full, including the 22re and 3.0./

 

just out of curiosity, when you say it is full, do you mean that oil actually runs back out of them or just that the filter is heavier than a new one?

for me, after sitting overnight before taking it off, the filter is a bit heavier, but oil does not run out of it the way it does if i take it off 15 minutes or so after shutting off the engine (which is how i normally change my oil).

i've always interpreted the filter still being a bit heavier after sitting overnight as being due to the crap the filter has trapped and a bit of oil that has actually been soaked up by the filter, but that most of the oil that is in the filter while the engine is running had drained back out overnight (and, thus, oil does not run out of the filter the way it does if removed after 15 minutes).

maybe i'm misinterpreting that, though.

(i'm just curious...like i said, i use OEM filters and think they are good...just trying to figure out a little more about them. next time i change the filter, i think i'll cut the old one in half and see what's going on inside.)

 

^^ Both, the filter has lots of oil run out (and on the damn skid plate ) and its always a lot heavier than the fresh one going in....even after it sits up-side-down on the top of the catch pan.
