towing, weight, gears...

i got a 87 pickup 4x4, i am planning on getting a woodchipper weighing about 1800 pounds. right now my truck could pull it, but i was wondering if there are any gear set ups out there that would give my truck a little more -umph- and torque without loosing a steady 65 on the highway??? by the way, i would be keeping the stock tire size...

Should tow it just fine - stock. You'll notice it on steep hills but that's about it. Spending $1000 to go up one step will of course improve your power, but that's a lot of wood chips....

I agree, the gearing from the factory on these trucks seems to be good.

I don't know if this would be an option, but you could change the ratio by getting a slightly smaller tire instead of having to buy gears.
