Towing capacity?

Towing capacity?

I just bought a another 4Runner 1999 limited

Now the total is 4 4runners yes I have a problem. But there is no 4Runner AA type of meetings
1985 4runner SR5 om617 swap
1998 4runner SR5 3.4
1999 4runner limited 3.4
2000 4runner SR5 3.4

It is 321 miles each way and I would like to tow it home with my 1998 4Runner with my tow dolly.

Besides having to remove the rear drive shaft any problems ?

Go get it!!

just use some commonsense driving .If your 98 4Runner is a automatic just don`t abuse the transmission.

Your stopping distance will be greatly increased .

I like to stay off the interstate Highways as much as possible. To keep the speeds in the 45 to 55mph I seek out the roads less traveled .

Just where do you need to go to rescue this one??

Remember this is not a timed event you don`t get points for the fastest round trip time.

the factory towing capacity is stated at 5k lbs, but your truck will feel like a fat kid trying to run to a candy shop. keep a light foot and allow plenty of stopping distance

You can do it but you will want a transmission cooler for that long of a tow if you are automatic. I towed a lot more then that 1500miles with my 2000 limited with no problems.

Also do not tell uhual that you will be towing a 4runner. They will not rent you a dolly.

Tell them some light car, you can play around on the website to see what car they will allow to be towed and then tell them that.

Good advice none-the-less...

Anywho, Toyota says your 4Runner can tow 5000 lbs. with a Class III hitch, or 3500 with a Class II hitch.

If your having issues not buying another yota... pick a newer one like a 2005-2009 4runner with the v6 or v8(vvt-i motors only) or a 2006-2009 Tacoma. They are yummy like Icecream on a naked girl (your wife in this case) while getting paid to stay at home. There are lots of the older tacoma's and 4runners now because the newer ones are so much better on gas.

Better yet... put the new motor and transmission in the older body. That would be a smart swap lol. Cheap to fix and lots of power .... HA HA HA.... look out chevy's. Toyota has a brand new bag

Sorry... time to go to bed

Are you talking about an external trans cooler in addition to the radiator? I know alot of people bypass their transmission fluid from the radiator and run just an external cooler to avoid the "pink milkshake".

Yes, the stock cooler is ok for day to day driving and light towing but heavy towing or towing in high heat will overload it. Plus cooler transmission temps are always better.

I used to bring home women

but I have yet to find one that gives me as much fun as bringing a new Toyota home and most often a whole lot cheaper.

All women are nuts, you just have to find one with a psychosis you can deal with.
