Torsion Crank & Shackle question
I'm new around here and I have a few questions. I've found a little information, but I was looking for a little more help for a rookie. I have a 89' 4 runner with 32's and a sagging rear end. I was wanting to know if I could get 1inch in the front and 2inches in the rear by cranking on the torsion bars and fabricating new shackles on the rear? I hope someone can help, I know their are a bunch of you out their that have done these mods. Thanks!

i would take a look at how your springs sit. if they sit on your overload leaf like mine did, i would recommend an add-a-leaf. my main springs (negative arch) actually sat on the overload leaf so the ride sucked. by adding the aal, it will return your springs to a positive arch off the overload and improve the ride a little. if they are just sagging, then adding a shackle is fine.
i use a set of short Procomp aal that i got for under $50. it leveled out my 4runner.

I've put a lift on my truck. I used Advance Offroad Research "Bonz" shackles (www.aor4x4.com). They are only like $80 for 1.5" and are very heavy duty. If your truck was used like a truck and the rear bushings weren't greased very often those shackles can be a real pain in the a$$ to get off. But I always have bad luck with that stuff. Be careful cranking those torsion bars, cause if you get em to high, it can make a real bad angle for your CV axles and eventually break em. Sometimes people who own the trucks before have already cranked the bars up, this is when the front looks taller than the rear.

Why not do both? AAL will help tighten up your ride and leaf pack, and shackles will give you some lift. I would go with some Daystar greasable's though as opposed to fabbing some unless you can make some good ones yourself.
Depending on how saggy the rear is, this may be a good option..

i would do both also. I have an 88 and i cranked my t bars and used add-a-leafs. Since i already had a sag the add-a-leafs really only fixed it and lifted it very lil in the rear when everything settled. Now i'm going to go get some 2 inch lift shackles for my rear to get some more room in the rear for my 32's. Oh yeah i didn't know you had an 89 runner. You posted about my Pre runner bar for sale. It would look real nice onyour i bet. Just keep intouch if you are still interested.
