Torque app not connecting 2001 Taco

Anyone have the Torque app for android? Tried hooking it up to the Tacoma today and it connected just long enough to grab an RPM and temp reading and shut right off... Can't get it to connect again. Works just fine on my gf's Juke, and me dad's F250, so i'm not too sure why its not working on the Taco. I have the BAFX adapter, if that makes a difference. Thanks!

Justin

Torque will tell you if it is not connecting to the adapter, or the adapter is not connecting to the vehicle. That's the first step to fixing this. There is a menu page off that round start menu with that info, but my Android tablet isn't here and I forget the name on the icon.

Durk, it is the adapter not connecting to the ECM. I know the menu you are talking about, and it is the "adapter to ECM" button that is not lit up. When i plug it in, the adapter will light up red, then the last two lights (yellow and green) will alternate flashing with the red one. Can't find any info on what that means, if it does mean anything.

Did you check the OBD fuse in the fuse block next to the engine?

I'm not familiar with that adapter so I can't help much. I'd try to borrow somebody else's scanner and see if that connects. That might tell you if the problem is truckside and not the adapter.

Make sure nothing else in the truck is running Bluetooth, to avoid interference. If it's not the truck, you might do better on the Torque forums. The developer is on there all the time and there are a lot of helpful people on there.

So far, mine has connected just fine to all the cars I have tried it on.

Red face

It might be something as simple as the pins on the Trucks OBD II connector have become a little corroded .

This happen to me once in a while

The OBDII adapters are pretty finicky. The best I have found is the one sold by Amazon with a 5 star rating.

It is odd that it works with other cars and not the taco. Checking the contacts is a good place to start. Could go to autozone and have them pull the codes to see if theres connects fine.

Could start out by resetting the ECU and see if that fixes it before digging deeper. Just pull the battery for a few hours and try to start it with the battery pulled.
