Tires for my '99

I want new tires for my 4Runner. It's a '99 Limited 4x4. I live in the city, but i do try to go off-road as much as possible. I also deal with a lot of snow in the winter.

I am torn between buying the Bridgestone Dueler REVO's and the BFG All-Terrain KO's. I've had BFG's before and loved them, but the ratings on the REVO's are really good. What do you guys think?

I know the stock size is 265/70/16. Can I fit 265/75/16's?

Been debated over and over again. It really comes down to preference between these two tires. I have had both, and for the type of wheeling I do in the terrain I do it in, I would go KO all the way. That will be my next tire once these Pirelli's wear out.

Yes, you can fit 265/75's, at full turn around a corner you might get a slight rub with the KO's. But nothing big.

BFG KO's...Love them! Have them on my 4Runner and Jeep.

I have read a lot of negative things about the REVO's.

And the BFG's will last longer....Just keep them balaced and rotated to avoid vibration.

I have the stock 265/70/16's on my 4Runner. They have been everywhere with no problems.

I'm about ready to dial up the REVO's. I was sold on the BFG until I saw the ratings on tirerack.com for them that said the one thing that brought the score down a bit was wet traction. Keep in mind it was still a very high score but there is nothing I hate more than driving in the rain. I have read about every thread possible on the two and what I can come up with is that REVO's are better if you primarily do street/highway driving and a little off roading. BFG seem to do better off road. Just my $.02. By the way, I have an 02 and am getting 265/75/16's.

BFGs cost alot more, have bad wet road manners (low resistance to hydroplaning at highway speeds) and mileage warranty and those are some things to consider if the tires are on a daily driver.
Yokohama Geolandar AT+IIs will do anything the BFGs do and save you a couple hundred bucks off the total price and they have a mileage warranty. BFGs have the popular factor going for them so few people consider other choices and they do have a classic tough looking tread design but that's not enough for me to consider them.

Just do some research and pick a tire that will suit your driving but consider a few in your decision.

Be aware that the Revo's throw up a lot of rocks. If you travel on gravel roads the sides of your Runner will be very, very scratched dinged up. Revos are great in the snow, quiet on the road, but not so hot on slippery mud.

Hope this helps.

I have had BFG's and and I have Yokahama now - I vote Yokahama - great manner on and off road, and not as pricey as the BFG's.

Personally, I am no fan of the BFG. They have the brand name going for them, and that drives up price. In NO way do I find BFGs superior to other tires. I will never buy BFG's again. They simply aren't worth it.

I found the BFG's noisier if that is a concern.

I have had BFG's , Michellin LTX, Dueller AT , Dueller Revo, some kind of Wrangler and the Dunlops 'SUCKtreks'.

After the Dunlops, the Revo's are the quietest.

I have had both. BFG's are much better at off-road, but lacking in wet weather. The Revos are what you need on the highway and in bad weather. They grip like claws in wet weather.

Answer to question number 1 and 2: Mainly on the Tundra Solutions Forum

Several threads have discussed premature wear. Try doing a Google search!

Also, my Dad put them on his 4runner about the same time I put on my BFG's. We have put about the same miles on the vehicles in similar driving conditions, on and off-road. At about 37K his are needing to be replaced.

AND....IMHO, THE REVO'S ARE UGLY!

I have not had any of the wet traction problems with the BFG's (which I was concerned about) on my 4Runner, but I have on my Jeep. I have had wet traction problems on my Jeep with all tires (probably due to the narrow wheel base and high center of gravity). I will be looking to replace the tires on my Sequoia after I wear out the stocks (which suck); Wet traction will be a big concern to me here since it is my wifes car and it will mostly transport kids.

Also, I have 5 friends/family members with 4Runners and they have a variety of tires on them. I have driven their vehicles and they have driven mine; Each of them said how much better my 4Runner handles than their's. The only differnce is the tires. But to each his own opinion, and it depends on what you want and what you use your vehicle for.

I just got 265/75/16 BFG A-T's today, and also have a 3rd gen 4x4. They fit with no rubbing on my stock (for now) suspension. I wouldn't go any bigger if you are stock though. I also did alot of research between Revo's and BFG's, and chose BFG.

I just got BFG AT KO's from tire rack last Wednesday, probably going to get them installed next week sometime by a friend.

I prefer the BFG to the Revos just cause they look alot better. I've had GREAT luck with the BFG's. I didnt have any problems with wet traction and I used them years through many hurricane seasons without a problem with I was living in SC. The Revo's look like they would be better in the rain but since I didnt have a problem why switch.

In the snow I had really really good luck with the BFG's. 30"+ snow and they pushed me right though. I also pulled alot of people stuck out of the snow with them.

As far as noise, I think they are very quiet esp. for the amount of traction they give you.

I dont have any experience with the Revo's so I'm kind of bias. I just didnt care for the look of them too much, looked way to car like for me.

I guess I expect more out of a tire since I had regular experience on three set of BFGs in all driving conditions ('87 Runner.'94 Toy PU and a '98 Runner) and their wet and dry traction made my set of Yok Geolandars (on my '97 Runner) feel like sports car tires and yes the Yoks wore about the same but the Geos had a mileage warranty and cost me $220 a set less.
Most truck owners eople buy BFGs based on looks and popularity and never really compare them to what else is out there so alot of people don't know what better daily driver manners are but if the tire fits your driving style then that's all you need.
Great off road tire but a poor choice IMO considering cost for a daily driver but if you got money to burn.
