I didn't find a fitting answer, So I will post it.

on an 88 4x4 what is the STOCK tire size? the tires on mine (well later this week to be mine) is in need of tire and it has big fat tires on it.... no i didn't note the size, sorry.

Normal size tires of normal appearance the way the factory put em on is fine, as long as the rims are pretty. I want it to drive nice and get the best MPGs.
*I don't (normally) go off road unless its to shake the police cars chasing me.
(kidding!)
Some roads here are dirt, most are paved, so I don't need/want rock crawler massive mud bogger tires....
whatever the factory designed it to have , thats my question.

later on i might go nuts and want something different, I haven't got there yet.

Yep, stock tire size is as listed above, should also be listed on a sticker on the driver's side door jamb and in the Owner's Manual. That is about a 28" tall tire.

 

some stock vehicles had a 235/75/15 or a 31x10.5x15 as a dealer upgraded size....

in my opinion, the 225/75/15s look way too small.......

 

Yeah I would go at least 235/75/15... but up to you!

Agreed. I would go with 31" tires. The sticker on the inside of your door should tell you what it was meant to have.

 

Sticker on the inside of the door *may* not tell you what it came with. Cant' remember which, but either the made in USA or made in JPN stickers only list the base size (225/75R15) no matter how it was equipped.

For that year, stock was either 225/75R15 and 4.10 gears or 31x10.50R15 and 4.56 gears.

 

stock? i think 33s are stock or is it 44s?

 

yea, 31x10.50x15 will look much better and probably give you the best MPG as well.

 

Well, on my first yota, I took the stock tires and wheels off and put on a set of 31x10.5s. Didn't see a noticeable drop in power or MPG, and it drove and handled MUCH better. It rode smoother, cornered better, and felt much more stable. Plus, it's the perfect size for a stock truck. Fills up the wheel wells really nicely, and really looks sharp. That's what I'd recommend.
