tire size for 2003 4runner?
#2
if you have the stock 16" rim then you can fit the 265/75/16 without a problem
if you have the stock 17" rim then you can fit the 265/70/17 w/o a problem
if you want to fit 285's then you're gonna have to lift it atleast 2 inches...
good luck

In the increase in the two sizes are very minimal in that it should fit fine. I believe someone has already installed the 265/70/17 without a problem.
Here's the figures for both sizes to give you some idea:
265/70/16 = 30.6" Diameter, 10.4" Width, 7.3" Height
265/75/16 = 31.6" Diameter, 10.4" Width, 7.8" Height
265/65/17 = 30.6" Diameter, 10.4" Width, 6.8" Height
265/70/17 = 31.6" Diameter, 10.4" Width, 7.3" Height
Figures for the 285's:
285/75/16 = 32.8" Diameter, 11.2" width, 8.4" Height
The overall size increase is only 1" in diameter which means only 1/2" on either side. It will just fill the wheel well better and you won't notice any significant changes either.
Most people who don't want to go 285's will always go 265/75/16's and stay there as you don't need to lift the 4runner at all.
As for me, I'm going for the 285's so I know I'm gonna have to wait for some lifts to become available.

I went to Discount Tire Co. to get my 265/75/16s a few weeks ago and even when I said I was pretty sure it was going to fit they decided to mount one and then turn the wheel left and right to check for clearance.
This was before I committed to laying down some $$ for them. Pretty nice customer service if you ask me.

so the only tire that would fit for a 20" rim lets say without a lift would be a
265/45/20 = 29.39" Diameter, 10.43" Width, 4.69" sidewall Height
but i dont like that very much that makes my speedometer 4% slow. and my diameter, Circumference is smaller would that have a negative affect on the handling and that sidwall is freaking small.
Chris, The Toyota 4-Runner has a very common 6x5.5" bolt pattern (the same as most General Motors Trucks). The diffuculty you are expereincing is finding a wheel with a big enough center bore to fit over the oversized hub of that vehicle. General Motors has a 78.1mm hub and most companies make wheels for GM because of the popularity of accesorizing them. The "foreign" makes generally have around a 108mm hub and not many companies make wheels with that fitment. Detata excels in specialty fitments and Rozzi sticks with the common fitments. That is why I directed you to our Detata website in hopes you find a style you like. Look at the Profiler, Trax, Siren, Verdikt and Duece.
can someone explain this to me alittle better

Impulse:
some other figures for ya to tinker around:
295/45/20 = 30.5" Diameter, 11.6" Width, 5.2" Height
265/50/20 = 30.5" Diameter, 10.4" Width, 5.2" Height
255/45/20 = 29" Diameter, 10" Width, 4.5" Height
255/35/20 = 27" Diameter, 10" Width, 3.5" Height
275/30/20 = 26.5" Diameter, 10.8" Width, 3.2" Height
245/35/20 = 26.8" Diameter, 9.6" Width, 3.4" Height
anytime you change the specs of the orig tire, you will definitely show changes in your spedo along w/ handling etc etc. The good thing is that if you change your tires, you can always adjust your spedo and have it calibrated for the new tires
ofcourse your handling will still change.
The first two w/ the 30.5" diameter should keep the spedo the same. But i think the 295's wont fit but i'm sure the 265/50 one will
good luck!

i tried calling toyota for some information and they cant give me anything they said all they can recommend is what comes on the 4runner. And if anything breaks cause of putting the different spec rims and tires on it will void the warranty on those parts. they dont even care if its the same tire size and different rim size. thought that was interesting Chris

Chris:
First off, never tell toyota what you had and say i think it broke cuz u did this!
if you take your 4runner in, make sure you take off your aftermarket stuff that you might suspect is the cause of any problems so they can't pin anything on the aftermarket stuff. it might be a pain but atleast you keep your rear covered!
As for your 4runner rims, since I'm assuming you're wanting to get some 20's in there, so long as it doesn't rub you shouldn't have any problems. everyone here that has aftermarket rim/tires that have upgraded their size has experience some spedo loss/gain etc etc. But keep in mind that, they knew that going into it and have had no problems w/ it.
Since I don't know anyone here w/ 20's yet, you might just want to hit up any tire store and see what fits. Literally have them install one tire and see if it rubs (left to right). If it doesn't, then you know it'll fit!
keep in mind that not all tire mfg's are the same size even though they state it is suppose to be.
Don't worry about the spedo as so long as you drive carefully you won't have an issue. Also same goes with handling. ofcourse you can lower your 4runner and then you won't have to worry about handling cuz of your cog will be lower!
Just find some dope rims that you want and then take it to a tire shop and i'm sure they'll want your business so they'll do whatever it takes to make some tires fit w/ the rim you want!
good luck and if ya get some, make sure u take some pix for us!

Goodtimes:
If I changed to the 265/70/17 (I have the stock 65/17 now) would it affect my speedo very drastically ?
If I remember correctly, I would read slower than I was actually going... Same with the miles, they would read lower than I had actually traveled.
I'm pretty happy with the stock Mich. but, when they wear out ,I would like something that fills the well out a little better.

If you upgrade to the 265/70/17 from the orig 265/65/17 this is the diff you'd experience:
Spedo Actual
10 -> 10.3
20 -> 20.7
30 -> 31
40 -> 41.3
50 -> 51.6
60 -> 62
70 -> 72.3
80 -> 82.6
etc etc ...

the only problem with going to a tire place is I can get a new set of tires and rims balanced, and mounted, with lugnuts for 500+ cheaper then what they want around here. Im not so worried about the speedo but it would be nice to find something close. like the 295/45/20 would be off like .3% or something which is minimal. Chris

so where are you getting all these numbers, is their a website or are you a tire math wiz
impulse
your best bet with tire sizing in 20's would be www.clublexus.com many of the GX470 guys have already put 20's on and since their truck has the same tires and specs you can't go wrong.
I've already seen 2 GX with 24's and a Limited 4Runner with 22's, all in manhattan so I was not able to get the specs as they where driving but did talk to the owners for a brief moment at lights
the 4Runner with 22's had a nice amount of rubber to absorb potholes.
I myself am looking for 18 or 19 that are performance oriented cause I don't want to weigh it down and I want the SC

265/70's
Hey all-
I'm running 265/70R17's with very minimal rub on the mudflap (backside of front fender). I am going to try and fit 275/70R17's when I replace my tires in the fall. I am currently running Konig Tremor 17x8.5" wheels, with Yokohama Geolandar A/T Plus II Tires. I'm sure different wheel offsets will render different results. Good luck.
Anthony
BTW, here are the dimensions of those 2 tires:
265/70R17's: 31.6 X 10.4
275/70R17's: 32.1 X 10.8

First post. Thanks all, I looked for days to find the answer to the very same question for my '03 4runner. This must be the board for answers.
I have Dunlops on mine and was hoping the Big0 X/T would fit in the 265/70 size.
