hey guys, im in the process of changing my timing belt/ water pump. ive taken the tensioner and new belt off twice because everytime i line the PULLY (not belt) marks up with the marks on the engine and put the belt on, i put the tensioner back on then rotate the crank and the marks on the crank line up but the marks on the camshaft pulleys are slightly off. Is this a Problem that the two camshaft pulley marks arnt perfectly aligned with the marks on the rear timing cover ? i dont want to start this thing up and ruin all the valves. i also need to get this thing back on the road because i need a 4x4 to get to work in the winter months. Any help is greatly appreciated. attatched are pics of the upper pulleys after the crank has been rotated and the cranks is online with its mark
Thanks everyone, i just didnt have the belt taught over the teeth before releasing the tensioner. It was a struggle but i got it all aligned nice and tight. Released the tensioner, rotated the crank and everything was good. Gonna finish putting her back together tomorrow and shell be ready for work on tuesday. Thanks again!
after a few mishaps with fuel return lines and vaccum hoses, (L0L) i got everything on right. i threw some new fuel injectors in there while the manifold was off and even with a small vacuum hiss, it runs way smoother than it did before. gonna fix that hiss later along with a few bolts i didnt put back on because they were basically unusable either from someone else previously stripping them or being flatout rusted. besides that, runs awesome! thanks again everyone, shes ready (enough) for work tomorrow
Why was the intake manifold off??
where did you buy your timing belt kit from or did you buy the parts separately?
Manifold was off because I also replaced valve cover gaskets, intake gasket, vacuum hoses and fuel injectors at the same time I did the water pump, thermostat and timing belt.
