Throwout Bearing Problems

I am getting a squeal from my throw out bearing. When I lightly depress the squeal goes away. My question is if my throwout bearing is bad do I need to replace my entire clutch as well? When it squeals it is rubbing against the pressure plate, correct? If that is the case then I will need to replace it, right?

Usually throw out bearings make noise when you push the clutch pedal in, that's the only time they have a load on them. When the pedal is up the bearing won't be under any load so no noise.

But if it is the bearing you may as well replace the clutch while the tranny is out.

While the TO bearing does only have a load on it with the pedal pushed, my IS300 had a TSB issued by Lexus to change the TO bearings for any customer who gets a squeal which goes away when clutch pedal is lightly depressed. Mine got worse and worse, had dealer do the TSB, no more noise.

Thanks. I will look into it as soon as possible. I am thinking of the centerforce clutch, should the flywheel be replaced as well or just resurfaced?

Well on the contrary you really do not need to go in there at all IMO. TOB's making noise is such a small thing and it happens to SOOOO many. There is no reason to go in there if you can deal with the noise; it really wont effect anything unless the bearing decides to fall apart (which won't happen). The bearing costs like $8, clutch costs over $200...

If you are a hard dog then go in there and do all that labor for $8, but it really won't effect anything by making a little noise, many many TOB's do this.

mine talks to me when i am drifting backwards and i let the clutch out really slow with a decent amount of gas...this only happens once in a blue moon...i have learned to deal with it at 140,000 miles on the truck...
