Throttle Body went bad
Now I'm $1400 in additional debt. I'm fighting Toyota corporate, however, since the vehicle is 2.5 years old and has 47000 miles. Too bad it's not covered under the power train warranty. At least it is fixed now.

You care to explain any more? Throttle body went bad? Did it implode? Instantaneously combust? It's like saying your airbox went bad. It's not exactly a "wear" part if you know what I mean.

Leave it to the stealership... Whatever the problem may have been, a can of carb cleaner would have fixed what ailed it (unless a gorilla got hold of the linkage...).

I fubared the spring on mine while cleaning it last year What did you do to yours? A buddy who worked at the local parts counter was able to get the price down to $600ish new, but I found a salvaged one in New York through Car-Part.com that ended up costing $150 shipped

By going bad, I meant that there was a "flat spot" inside of the throttle body. The service manager said that when throttle was open to a certain point, this flat spot caused an inaccurate reading to be sent and the vehicle would drop the RPM down to idle speed while accelerating. Regardless, the throttle body was $955 and the labor was around $350. Add tax and I'm broke. Wish I would have looked around for a throttle body too but I just wanted it to be fixed. Like I said, I will fight this with Toyota. The service manager lead told me the problem was likely caused by the S/C.
I've read several times on TRD's website that in testing, the S/C has not shown any indications of additional wear to the engine. Not to mention, TRD makes the part and it was dealer installed. I have no complaints about the dealership. I've been trying to get this diagnosed for months by several different dealerships and local repair shops. Fowler Toyota was able to tell me what the problem was in 4 hours.

Please tell me they gave you your old throttle body back? I've never in my life heard of this. "flat spot?!" I'd seriously talk to toyota about this. Sounds fishy to me.

Call me crazy - I don't have a SC and haven't done a tone of research on them, but doesn't the SC replace your upper intake plenum and Throttle body? If you haven't done anything to the SC, then how did you get a "flat spot" in it? Wouldn't that be a manufacturing defect and it would have caused problems from day 1?

I believe the stock throttle body is attached to the s/c. Anyway, I think you could have searched around and found a throttle body for much cheaper. Also, the reason the dealership gave you sounds fishy. Wouldn't the throttle body be covered under the powertrain warranty? Just doesn't sound right. I bet if you did some searching around, you probably could have had it done for about half the price. But that's besides the point, fight it with Toyota because that sounds like a defect, and the s/c doesn't void warranty's.

With a trauck that new, and with low miles, it had to be a factory defect. With the diagnosis you got from the stealership, you should have took that info to a different mechanic and gotten a second opinion. Once I get a diagnosis and quote from a mechanic, I use that info to further research and shop around for lower prices. You can't rush into repairs (unless it's necessary) or you'll get ripped off every time.

Let me suggest up front that we NOT turn this into what happened with Toyota of Richardson ("TOR").
Let's give BlueTrane our support, give him the phone numbers to Toyota (but it looks like he's on it) and even give him words to use with Toyota to get this resolved, but we should NOT call the dealership on his behalf.
From this side of the story, it looks like he clearly got taken for a $1400 ride. But this needs to be a one-on-one transaction to get him satisfaction.
