Thinking about 315s

Now that I have recently added fresh 285 MT/Rs I am considering 315s. I know that I would need to replace my 1" BL with an 1.5"BL. That is no problem as Localmotion will buy my 1".

I have limiting straps that will be installed within the next week or two. I know that BruceTS and Clarockx run 315s (I think) Granted Bruce runs the TC kit....

I will have to sell or modify my rear bumper to fit a 315 spare under the truck. I don't have enough clearnace for anything larger than a 285. Besides replacing braking lines to stainless steel (longer) I can't think what else i would need to do.

Am I missing something??

I have 4.30s. Perhaps I can avoid shaving the a-arms by running somethig narrower. I have 16x8 FZJ-80 wheels with 4.5" bs.

My pincheweld will need to be shaved down more. Maybe the change in BL won't be neccesary. If the ARB needs modifying that could get tricky...

+1 for the steering cooler. Already have rear locker, blower, fuel upgrades

Well I am also looking at the ORS manual hib conversion kit with Aisin hubs and high angle CV boot kit. Not neccesarily immediately, but soon.

I am not trying to break axles and axles are still cheaper that a SAS, if and when I break.

What are you missing?

A thump from the clue by four?

The "shaving" Yokohomo did to the seam was a lot like "cutting a bunch of steel out.

You need 4" of BS or less. It will likely still hump the frame.

If you do this without gears it is clearly a pavement truck. That is a lot of tire and I have the same drivetrain as you.

If you want the tires, buy them. Leave the bodylift on and cut everything else out of the way. The BS involved with switching the BL's is not worth it IMHO versus the gain.

I have been thinking about 4.56. It is not a pavement queen. It rolls errands, but I don't mind scratches and dents. I sure as hell try to wheel as much as possible.
In the mean time the s/c and 4.30s will do the job. I know the seam will need some work, but I like my wheels

Gears would come shortly after. that's just how I am

I run 5.29's with the same engine and tranny and only slightly more tire.

Get some 5.29's, get some real tires and start breaking axles.

Don't let that chem guy tell you any different. Either you regear to 5.29's or you left it stock.

What size tire are you running.

I can sell my 4.30s and go with 4.88s. I do tow motorcycles from time to time and a few thousand pounds with my trailer 9about 3-4K# max)

Is this a plan for carnage??

WHY?

Are there obstacles that you could clear by adding 1" to your clearance?

Have you maxed out all other means of increasing your off-road ability?

Things to seriously consider:

A new rear bumper? Isn't that one only a few months old?

Are you ok with cutting your fenders? That's right, fenders, not just the pinch weld. I have bent my fenders back in behind the flares just to run 295's and wheel it.

You will need either shaved arms or custom ones.

With an auto I would add an additional tranny cooler.

A PS cooler is a must, and be prepared to replace your rack bushings and rack sooner.

I'm sure I missed something.

Maybe I am wrong, but I suspect it's for looks...

That's not a bad thing, if you have the money and are willing to do what it takes. And no, I am not trying to be a prick. I just want you to think this through. That's why you posted the thread right?

It was a bored thought today. Could it be done without a huge surgery. You have given me my answer.

Do I think you a prick, NO. That is why I posted. For some insight and perspective. I still want to run the 295 Nitto Terra Grapplers.

I am very happy with the way my truck performs and some of it is looks. However, function over form. The rear steel is new and I am happy with it, minus some minor things. I might swap my bl for some additional .5" of body to bumper clearance....

I don't have the extra $$$$ to throw at new a-arms, gears, etc. Plus I have not pushed my truck to its limits or had a problem getting throug over and around.

I promise this wasn't a Hey look at me thread. sometimes a stare at my ride and just think it looks small. Sounds dumb, but it is late and I am enjoying the last few months of quite in the house

Don't get me wrong.

I will go to 315's, I will also SAS my rig someday and even sooner I will have a dual ultimate crawler.

I have not pushed my rig to it's max (without significant body damage), but I am close.

Plus I have to try and keep up with the people I wheel with: Schaefer, SteveO, Cheese....

That is just it. I would like to copy Steve S on the SAS--FJ style. 4" SUA with no more than a 315. I have not pushed mine to the edge. Perhpas I keep my setup (maybe 295s) and start collecting parts. I am not in a rush and have no real plan to SAS in the near future.

I am planning on keeping my rig for a while, so.....

Man I just want a little change
