test driving 01 tacoma, completely stalls out.
So I'm looking to buy a new (to me) tacoma.
I found one today for a very good price due to it having numerous small cosmetic faults, and a bit of rust due to its old life in Colorado. I went to take it for a test drive, and floored it to 30-35, then stomped on the brakes (yes in a safe area with no other cars). As soon as I let off the brakes, the engine dropped to idle or less, and would not rev up again. I pulled to the side of the road, turned it off, and then tried to turn it on again. The engine would turn over, then die. After about 3 tries, the engine would not start again at all, just the starter. I walked back to the dealership, and by the time I returned to the truck with the salesman, it started right back up again. Go figure. After that, I drove the truck around more and put it through its paces again without any problems.
Any idea what could have caused the stall? I couldn't find anything wrong with a quick poke around the engine, but I want to make sure this isn't a big issue before I move on with the sale.
Thanks in advance!
