Hi All

I am taking off on vacation and would like to get some ideas on temporarily disabling my truck from would-be thieves. I have an alarm with starter disable, but I know it is not difficult to defeat it. Does anyone have ideas about what I could do to prevent my truck from being started or driven anywhere?

Take half or all of the spark plug wires Ain't goin anywhere w/out them!

 

Pull the EFI fuse. Won't run without that either.

 

Take the steering wheel off and put it in your suit case

 

I pull my EFI fuse when I leave my truck at the airport.

Now, some would say that that means the ECu has to leaern again...small price if you ask me.

I also installed a hidden switch and relay that would cut the power to the fuel pump...just one more irritation for the thief and really difficult to find without pullin panels and tracing wires ...

where do the fuel pump wires on a 3rd gen enter. also what color are they, i've thought about putting in a cut off switch but dont know where to splice in. if you could help in any way that would be great

 

Take the tires off and put blocks under the car.


Seriously, I agree with 96, pull the EFI fuse

 

pulling the ecu fuse is the easiest theft deterent there is. How many would be theives carry around a spare fuse. And will take the time to open the hood and have alook see to check what is wrong, especially if the truck is turning over but not starting.
Also I'm not sure about your truck but I believe the signal for the fuel pump goes thru the AFM and if you just disconect the plug that will not let it start.
The only bad thing is if they want it bad enough they could always just tow it away

Doesn't work. The thieves use ViceGrips to lock onto the sterring column stump they're gone (ask any former "Club" user whose had their ride stolen).

Pulling the coil wire(s) or EFI fuse is the quickest/easiest....

 

Pull the EFI, my buddy has a Runner and he did that, he found evidence (i would assume scratches) around the doors from them using those things (forgot the name) that you stick in and pull the locks up and then he saw the cover off of the fuse box and scratches around the hood from them trying to pop the hood.

Saved him from getting his car stolen...works with me.

If a person removes the ecu fuse, can't a bad guy use some other fuse from the rig? I never looked into it, just wondering. I'd think a locking hood lock is needed, no matter what system you use.

I wonder if anyone ever got their GM Aztech stolen, or ever worried about it.

 

I like driving my truck more than I like driving her Nissan, but with fuel prices the way they are now, there is no question on taking her car. This is a 1500+ mile road trip.

 

You know, I went and picked that up but haven't had a chance to install it because of the extra modification it requires.

Soon though...

 

I cannot recall the color of the power supply to the fuel pump but I may check tonight if I get a minute.

It is located under the trim in the driverside doorwell.

Its easy to spot as there is a bundle of wire and it is the biggest thing there. The only other thing approaching that size is the cable release for the fuel filler flap.

I think it may be blue with red stripe or red with blue stripe...let me check.

i dont think that they have to worry about that.

 

Search around to find my post on the switch for the 3rd gen, I describe the color of the wire, and where it comes in. Its a orange/blue(or gray) stripped wire that splices into the main bundle. My post has details I can't remember off the top of my head. I feel alot more secure now, with that switch and my alarm.

 

just take the entire ECU with you--- nobody will have a spare one of those anywhere, even at the dealer and there are no ways to bypass that. I took one out of my friends truck as a joke and the mechanic was scratching his head for a whole day
