TE1 to E1 code reading (no flash)

Got a check engine light today while driving. Read a bunch here about this. I tried the paper clip to read the codes but I don`t get any type of check engine light flash. I turn key to on (before start) and the check engine light stays on, no flash. Anyone, help??

Make sure the paper clip is touching the metal for TE1 and E1. I did that once and got the same thing and had to go out and jimmy the paper clip into the holes and it worked.

I got the paper clip in between those metal clips in the TE1 and E1. I tried just touching the metal to pushing the paperclip all the way in and still it`s a no-go.

You have an OBDII vehicle. get a code scanner or go to some autopart stores that will scan you codes for free. I don't think the paper clip method works on OBDII, just OBDI could be wrong. But the easiest way is to get them scanned at like Autozone, etc..

I removed the battery cable and EFI relay. I was thinking it may have been the gas cap as I filled-up (halfway) and later noticed my gas cap was not on good. The check engine light is gone from disconnecting the battery but would it come back on if the problem was something else or would it be left in memory.

You cleared the ECU's memory so the light is off. If the problem that caused it to come on is still there after a few warm up/drive cycles the light will come back on. If it does get the truck scanned to find out what code it is and post it here so we can help out.

Went to Toyota today and they were kind enough to read my codes. They didn`t give me the number and I forgot to ask. What he did say was that my engine is running lean and that the problem is a dirty MAF sensor. I ordered one and will replace it as soon as it gets in. I hope that`s the end
