Taurus fan and new temp guage installed..pics
Last weekend I installed a Taurus electric fan in my runner. It works great, but my temp guage has been a problem for the last few months, so today I installed a Sunpro mechanical temp guage. I have an adjustable controller set at 190 degrees. Next week will be the real test out in the desert.
Here are some pics-quality is bad because it was done in my garage--

I saw your post about that, but I thought the problem was you put the controller in a hot area. I will test it next weeken in the So Cal desert--hopefully it will work fine, but I am carrying the stock fan just in case.

I thought that was the problem at the time. With a 3.0 I guess that there are few cool places to locate it. Mine is located between the inner passenger side fender and battery.I have had problems with the fixed temp controller, but it was related to the wires in the relay harness connector coming loose(I cut off the connector block and soldered the wires directly to the relay Tip: make sure to use a heatsink or the innards of the relay will break) or corroding at the thermal sensor connection (I cleaned the connectors, clipped off the crimp terminals and soldered the wires directly on- no more problems there)

I did a really good job of wiring. I heatshrinked all the connections. I put the controller next to the other relay boxes, and made sure everything was grounded well. I also wrapped the wires I could so it looks nice and neat. Hopefully it will work just fine.

I've been using my adjustable for about a year now and it seems to be doing ok. It sounds like I put mine where yours is Rome, but I also insulated it with styrofoam and aluminum foil. Not sure if it does anything, cause it still feels hot.

I have not had any problems since soldering the wires directly to the terminals on the relay and temp probe. I am planning on installing my spare Taurus fan under the hood of my 87 since the 22RE is anemic though still capable of getting the 38.5" tires up to 70mph (maximum)...hopefully it helps as well as the one on the 3.0 in my 94.

Awesome Marc! That's on my long list but I think I'll go for a Flexalite some day. Looks like we'll all have something to keep an eye on next weekend!
I'm mostly concerned about my manual hub conversion not failing.

After driving around for about a week now I am very happy with the results. I am getting a little better gas mileage, and my truck warms up to operating temp much faster. Like I said before, next weekend will be the first real test.
