Tailgate window switch location on 97' SR5 4runner

Tailgate window switch location on 97' SR5 4runner

Just purchased a 97' SR5 4runner. There doesn't seem to be a tailgate window switch anywhere inside the car. The tailgate goes down if you use the key in the rear lock - but other 4runners I looked at (mostly 2000s) had a switch on the dash (Limited) or on the armrest.

The armrest looks like it may have been replaced with the style that has 2 cupholders...could this explain why the switch is missing?

Can someone confirm if all 97 SR5 models had a tailgate switch?

When it was new rolling off the boat .

The rear window switch was on the console .

Who knows it might have broke and never was replaced or could have been relocated .

Thanks - do you mean the armrest/ebrake part of the console, or the part with radio / climate control?

It looks like the armrest was definitely replaced, the 2 cupholder style wasn't from 97. I'm hoping theres a loose plug under there and I just need to cut a hole and buy a tailgate switch.

The early style console had the window switch along side the ebrake handle where it slopes up from the shifter back towards to compartment.

Newer We style is up on the dash below the clock where the early style cup holder pop-out would’ve been.
