Tail light go out, then comes on

Ok guys and Gals, I did the search and I didn't see my particular issue, although the answer may be in one of the treads.

I have a 2000 4Runner, right side tail light will not work consistantly. I pulled the bulb, bulb was good but replaced it anyway just in case. Tail light works, put parking lights on tail lights are both on. Then I'll drive a day or two and the right side tail light doesn't work any more, brake light and turn signals work. I'll take out the bulb check it and re insert, tail light works, then same thing happens. Any ideas????? thanks in advance. EDH

I think I may be experiencing the same problem with the right side as well on my '94.

Hey man I had that prob before in my 87' turns out the surface of the 2 termial ends that the bulb sits on one for your brake and one for the tail had corrison build up. You can use a # of things to clean the surface from sandpaper to carb cleaner and a rag. If by any chance this does not work it going to be a bad connection from the split of your rear wiring harness or at your termial ( could check with a multi-meter or a 12v test light)

Funny...

My right side went out on my 2000 sr5
When i went to replace the bulb, the light came back on before i could pull the taillight. Then it went out again.

I replaced the bulb. Now the parking taillight is fine but the more intense braking light doesn't come on when i apply the brake pedal. I think i may have just busted that part of the bulb, but have been to lazy to check.

sounds like a loose connection...

Last week my parking lights wouldn't turn off. It turned out to be water inside the trailer wiring harness had grounded the 12v hot to the lights. Tore the whole truck apart, I mean every relay and fuse and nothing worked. Kicked the trailer hitch and they went out. Just a thought, don't know if your in the snow belt.
