Tacoma Cup Holder

My cup holder, according to the pocket owner's manual it's a "type b", needs some attention. The rubber "thingies" that hold the cups that aren't as big as the holder are about done.

Anyone else have this problem and what did you do to fix it? Home remedy or dealer?

I found this post humerous for some reason. Probably because above and below people are asking about trannies, fuel injectors, tires, and then you see "cup holder." Also, "thingies" was pretty funny. Not saying your problem isn't relavent, I just chuckled.

Sorry to post and not have an answer, but my 92's cup holder doesn't have rubber thingies, so I'll shut up now.

I guess I'm a little too picky about my truck's condition.

Oh, you should be. I am too, but I just got my truck, so I'm still busy doing inital maintenence, installing my 'necessities', and getting a feel for it. As soon as I can I'm getting it detailed. I love a clean car, with everything perfect, but I also love a messed up one (stuff for me to fix).

I imagine you could take one of the rubber "thingies" to the dealer and explain to them where it goes and that they could get you some new "thingies" relatively inexpensively. Then you would have some rubber "thingies" that worked properly.

Yes, I was just wondering if anyone else had done this after having soda spilled all over the place du to malfunctioning "thingies".

Maybe I'll figure out how to tear apart the center console and make a "Super Thingie Mod"!

I'm sure there's some way to incorporate the deckplate into this "thingie" mod to gain at least 10 more hp.

Or maybe run the oil through the center console to be extra cooled by a cold drinks in the cup holders.

Okay now we're just having too much fun.

I'm assuming this is for the newer Tacomas. I think this is the way it goes-

I ran across this while I was wiring my switch for my aux. rear lights:

closeup

Unscrew both of the side screws on the driver and passenger closest to the seats (what you see in the pic above, next to the switch).

Once you've done that go into the center box - not the one on top but the hidden one on the bottom. Unscrew what you see on the bottom there.

After that the whole thing should swivel up like a hood. If you look under you'll see how the spongy thingies stay in place and if necessary you can pull out the old ones and use them as a template to make new ones if you know what kind of material to use.

Actually quite simple - if you're willing to put up with the unscrewing/unbolting.

It SHOULD work this way. When I installed my switch I actually had all the center console plastic out of the way to make room for the wiring. If you've got any problems you can PM me.

By the way - if I remember correctly, the foam pieces are going to look a little like this:

___________
|_............_|
._|..........|_
|...............|
.\________/

Let us know how it works out for ya!

EDIT:
Cause the picture didn't come out right.
Ignore the blue dots - the only way the spacing would come out correctly.

Thanks Tacoma dude. Your center consle is a bit different than mine since you have auto and I have manual but the cupholder nearest the seat looks like the same type so I'll check it out.
