taco axel in my 3rd gen?

ok my rear axel housing in my 98 4runner is rotted out and leaks bad, im waiting for a rock to punch right through it lol. so its time for a new axel housing.

i can get a pretty good price on a beand new housing from my familys dealership but i think i have better options that i can do. one of my buddies is takeing out his axel from his 97 taco and putting in a dana 60. his toyota axel already has a auto locker (i forget what kind) in it. and im currently running open and am in the market for a locker also.

so if i purchase this axel off of him i am going to need to cut off his leaf perches and weld on new brackets for the 4link and coils in my runner.

is there anywhear that sells brackets or am i going to have to cut them off of my old axel? im going to check at work tomarrow to see if i can get thoes brackets but i bet the stock ones are going to be allot of money.

thanks if u have any input on my situation, josh

The dealership will sell these brackets, but you are going to have to be super careful to get all 5 of the brackets lined up or you will not track straight, and there are no cam adjust bolts on the rear, its all in the accuracy of the weld.

You could make your own out of steel, but then you run the risk of not being exact again.

The easiest thing is going to be get a new housing, either brand new or junkyarded. Or do a rear leaf swap, thats failry easy
