tach mod 3.4 swap
Wrong year forum I know but this site with this pop up makes it difficult .... anyways
89 4runner 3.0 swapped to 3.4
Upgrading to SR5 instrument cluster and all works accept the tack now
Cluster came from a 86 or 87 but has the 6 at top of gauge leading me to believe it is out of a 3.0 truck . Just confused about where to add a resistor if that is what is needed ? And where to solder it in ?
Any help would be much appreciated , thanks

Check out the 3.4 swap threads lots of great info.
Possible the tach on your new cluster is broken or the trace broke loose.
The resistor is only if your cluster was from the 22r series. The tach works but not how it should
3.0 and 3.4 are just plug and play
Just what year ECM are you using your gauge might not be seeing the signal
When you wired the 4th plug you might have a bad connection .

Thanks for the response wyoming9 , I'm.thinking it might be a bad tach indeed although I can bump the gauge while out of the rig with a 1.5 volt battery and get a response . I have a good signal to and thru the harness plug into the cluster and was thinking it should work just fine but still playing with it . The one unknown at this point that might make a difference is what value and type of signal I would be getting from the 3.4 ecu as opposed to the original set up . Trying a potentiometer addition to see if adjusting the resistance value will do the trick as suggested elsewhere . I'll keep posting my results and hopefully find the solution .
