Synthetic fluid question
I am getting ready to run 10w-30 mobile1 in my 02 Taco 4x4. My question is what is everyones opinion on running synthetic in the tranny and rear-end? Is synthetic worth it or not in these locations? Thank everyone in advance for your help...

I run it in the tranny, transfer case, and will be putting it in my rear end before summer's end. Much easier shifts, transfer and tranny are noticably cooler. Slightly better MPG but thats probably my imagination.

I had Mobil 1 ATF put in about 2 months ago. I noticed the smoother shifting, but I don't know if it improves gas mileage. I figured what the hell, if I put the good stuff in the engine why not put it in the tranny too.

So far I have yet to hear a person who switched to Amsoil, who will ever use anything else again - so I'm going to switch to it at my next change, including replacing all fluids front to back with their synthetics.
Victor - I've heard of a number of people now reporting mileage improvements with the Amsoil... That in itself makes it worthwhile as long as it protects the engine as good or better than anything else.

I am getting ready to change my trans fluid I was thinking of going with Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. I was at the dealer getting some oil pan drain plug gaskets got a price on this service and while talking to the service manager he told me that putting synthetic ATF fluid in my 2000 Runner would void my warranty. He claimed that while it would be great for the metal parts it is too slick for other parts namely in the torque converter and would cause slipage.
Now I don't know what too do.

He has no idea what he is talking about. Two things:
1) Magusson-Moss Act. Basically says that things you do to
your vehicle won't void warranty if it didn't cause failure. They have to prove it. (this is an overly simplified version)
2) If the ATF meets the SFI specs,(which it does, BTW) then he
doesn't have a leg to stand on. This is true for any ATF that meets or exceeds the OEM requirements.
It seems to me that the less the individuals know about something at the Stealership, the quicker they are to put it down.
Or is it just me?

I am dropping Amsoil tranny fluid, Synthetic, in the... well, yes, the tranny, this week. Actually it's going to be a flush. And every other fluid in the truck except the coolant is Amsoil synthetic. Can't go wrong.
By the way, I am soon to be coming up on my 1 yr run with the oil in the engine and will be having it analyzed afterwards to see how it did. I know some guys were asking about this. I am almost there.
