As the frigidly cold weather has begun to set in, my truck has encountered a few recent starting issues.

The past 2 weeks or so, when I first go out in the morning and turn the key, it clicks and I can hear what I assume is the starter spin, but it doesn't try to turn the engine over. After 4-5 attempts it catches and the truck starts up. However, it won't have this issue until the next morning. When I drive to work and leave for lunch 5 hours later, it never acts up. Or when I leave to go home for the night it never acts up. It only seems to happen sitting over night in the extreme cold. I thought a starter problem would be more consistent, not just during cold weather, so I might be off thinking that's the cause of the problem.

Any ideas?

Does the starter sound normal or slower? Batteries lose A LOT of their power in the cold. Actually using them will get them heated up a bit and able to supply enough power to get the truck going. Then you have enough heat in the engine bay to get full power.

Some other things - check/upgrade your ground wires and have your battery checked at AutoZone, Advance, etc - it may be on its last legs. If replacement is due, I would recommend getting more cold cranking amps
