I did some searching and found some answers as well as more questions?

My truck will sway on the freeway when it is loaded down, especially with a big Thule 18 cubic foot box on the cab. And in high wind.

I checked my anti sway bar and it looks ok, however I could not find the rear one? Do I have a rear one for my 2002 Tacoma 4x4, 4 door, TRD Limited truck?

When I would push on the truck from the side, it was easy to rock it from side to side? Is this normal? I had someone else sway the truck and saw that the shocks were moving pretty easily.

So, I installed Bilstein shocks and the truck is still easy to rock from side to side by pushing it?

However, I have not yet put the Thule on the cab and loaded it down and driven it on the freeway, however, it does sway a bit in town.

It seems everything is tight and the washers are good, but I need to do a more thorough check.

How much resistance to pushing from the side should my truck have?

is it lifted or anything done to it recently....did it just start or has it always done this...how long have you had it???

 

Its deff normal. My 4runner sways like a mofo, especially in any kind of wind. All that you mention is normal. Go shake another similar truck or comparable size SUV and see.
No anti-sway bar on the rear.

 

Not lifted, 265x75x16 tires, had it for 3.5 years. It started after and when I put a Thule box on the cab and drive over 70mph and it's windy.

I have not driven the truck with the Thule in the wind at high speed with the Bilsteins, so maybe that will help alleviate the problem.

Well what your problem might be, if this started happing after you put the Thula Box and mostly happens when your on the free way; the wind depending on what direction its hitting you from will cause it to sway in that direction. it just the added ressistance will make it sway since the 4runner is a pretty light truck.

 

I'm pretty sure it's normal, when i switch between my lowered sports car to the 4Runner I can really notice the swaying. That's what you get for buying an SUV.

 

yea i wouldnt worry about it as far as something be wrong it prolly just the difference in weight just like if you did a small lift it would feel diff you will get used to it and it will feel normal....i have a lil dodge neon that i use as a daddy mobile and when i go from that to my truck which has 37s its completely different haha!!!!

 

I replaced my stock coil springs with some Toytec Lift Coil overs, which seems to have solved the problem.

4Runners are top heavy and have a very high center of gravity, they will sway quite a bit. especially if you have a lift.
