swaybar discos

My discos need to be replaced. Are the majority of the discos still hand made by people in their garages? I know rockstomer does/did make them... anyone else "mass producing" them?

I've heard they are easy to make... anyone have a set of plans or directions for making them myself? To those of you who have made them yourself... where do you find the parts... specifically the heims? I've never seen that at any of the local hardware stores.

I'm kind of in a pickle because I'm hoping to have them in time for a run this weekend.

Get the heims from www.polyperformance.com. They sell FK ends that are pretty nice. Whatever you do, make sure they are stout enough.

I've been riding around with no front bar since I snapped off a couple of cheap heims from some discos I bought. I have the parts to make my own beefy new ones, just haven't found the time.

If you give up on the idea of doing your own, many folks are running disco's from Lars Dennert:

If I make them myself, I have ot get the parts locally due to the time crunch. If I get them pre-made, they'll probably have to be ready to ship within 24 hours, and I'll probably have to pay for priority shipping (which is fine).

I prefer the Nuke/Lars design over the Rockstomper design simply because I know how well they work. Now I just gotta find a way to get a set on my rig by Sunday.

Just remove the bar for the run and put it back on after.

I can't... that's part of the problem. I've got nuke discos now, and the top wing nuts are rusted on. PB Blaster doesn't seem to be doing much. I could cut them off, but then I have no way to reattach the sway bar afterwards.

Are both connections rusted on? You can remove it either at the swaybar or at the lower control arm, right? Or are both shot?

I used to think I'd be motivated to get mine back on once I completely removed it - funny, not so much...

I can still remove the pin at the lower control arm... but I'd think the disco would get in the way as the suspension compressed - there's no real way to secure it out of the way, is there?

My experience is with 2nd Gens and they stay put. I'm not so sure about the 3rd Gens.

Did you try hitting it the rusted piece with some heat? Maybe even a propane torch?

Now if you can get the lower control arm connection out, can't you take the swaybar with the end links attached off completely? I might be missing something though...
