Suspension Questions

So I installed a front bumper winch and skid. As one would expect my front end is now sinking. Now what kind of suspension would level me out without much lift? I wouldn't mind an inch or so but I don't really want anything beyond that. I would also like to stay away from spacers cause i'm just not real keen on them. Any suggestions?

Old man emu 882 coils and TRD Tundra 4x4 coils are the two most popular around here for sure. You'll probably get an inch of two of lift.

Do the tundra coils fit the stock shocks? Where do you get them? I don't really wanna go up two inches. I have brand new tires. I will eventually go to 32's but don't really need the lift for them. Any better options?

Sway-a-way coilover s are adjustable to any height from 0" to 3" of lift.

I'd throw some bilistien 5100 shocks in the front and set them to 2.5 inches

That's more what I'm looking for, level now and good for a little lift later if I so desire. Question is, if they are both adjustable from 0"-3" what's with the 2" and 2.5" kit?

they are coilovers and thats why you can adjust them. they are not an extended length strut, altho ome makes great lift products. i second the sway aways, and ome

good luck and is you search this is covered weekly

I know they are coilovers, and all I see when I search is "I want a 3" lift so I can fit 33's." I don't want a lift, I want to level my ride with proper suspension. Not spacers. Also i'll answer my own question, the different measurement's are for the diameter. Larger diameter, more oil, better cooling. Since I live in the east and don't go dune jumping 2"ers are good for me.

yes 2.0 is more for street. 2.5 is more for off road abuse.

My sway-a-ways have taken about 10,000 miles of abuse, from jumping to bombin' whoops, and just everyday driving. I love them!! Worth every penny. Some day I have very long sway-a-way coil overs in the front when I link and SAS my rig. I just got to break the IFS first.

They are more than I was looking to spend right now, but i'm more of a do it right the first time type of guy. If I go that way I would probably get some of their shocks fitted to the rear as well. Then I could just get 99' rear springs and be all set.

IMO doin it right the first time usually turns out to be the cheapest...

you can do what I did by accident, and buy the bilstein HD shocks and put the spring cup upside down. See my post " *** Bittersweet Front Lift *** " Plus the shocks are lifetime warranty.

Well, upon further investigation a couple issues came up. Number one, the SAWs I ordered were on eternal back order so I canceled my order to search for another option. Turns out that may have been a good idea as I'm building my rig for overland/expedition type use and I probably wouldn't have been happy with a baja type setup in the end.

Next I started poking around Sonoran Steel. I'm not really interested in their kits, as i'm not looking for a lift, but there is a wealth of information on that site.

From what I gather an OME 881 would net me 20mm of lift, or .78 inches, with 150 pounds extra weight up front (ARB, winch with synth, BB skid, and eventually dual batteries I'd say I qualify.)

I would also assume then that for the rear I would run 890's to sit level after a rear drawer system/sleeping platform and extra spare.

Does this sound right to everyone else or am I way off?

I think that's about right because I believe the 906s would sag too much with all that weight in the back. But with 890s, that extra weight should push the back down to right about the height of the 881s if you're not using the top plate spacer. I think this is probably your best option.

That was my feeling. Plus then i'm taking care of all four corners for the price of the SAWs alone and getting the better set up for my purpose.

I agree completely, with no extra weight in the rear the 906's would sit level. However, with a sleeping platform/drawers, two spares, tow hitch, and gear (probably a rear bumper too eventually) I would need the 890's to sit level; the 906's would sink with all the added weight. By the way, thank you, your site has been a wealth of information for me. If I was in the market for a lift I would definatly be looking into one of your kits. Unfortunately I'm the guy you're talking about who the OME kit is actually made for. No lift (well not much) just leveling out for the added weight.
