Supercharger Noise

Hey folks,

I have a 99 4Runner the first gen blower and the full URD kit. I just installed it and have only about 1000 miles on it. The truck runs great, but I am a little concerned about the supercharger noise it has at idle. It was there from day one. I expected a rattling sound from the nose drive from reading all the posts, but mine sounds more like a low, squeaky whine. It goes away once I get off idle.

No other issues, just want to make sure I don't have an issue since it wasn't what I expected from reading other's experiences. Thanks.

I thought the 1st gens did have some gear backlash and could be heard at idle (it would go away at higher RPM as you describe). One thing to ensure is that the nose drive has the proper amount of oil in it and that it isn't leaking. Other than that, it is just part of the design which they improved in the 2nd gen version.

I bought the 1st gen supercharger from URD as part of their full 1st gen + Fuel Kit package. It was new in box. Perhaps re-manufactured (i'm not sure), but definitely not used.

Try checking the oil level in the nose drive, there should be a little filler plug towards the base of the drive unit.
