Supercharger Advise

I have a 1999 4runner and want more power. One of my friends has a 1996 t100 and is selling his supercharger with 20k miles on it. Would I be able to do a swap directly in my 4runner? Also what is the recomended low cost upgrades and is a rebuild neccesary?

Dunno about the direct swap, what's the engine in the T100? My gut feel is that it's not the same engine/plenum setup - so it's not probable that it's a direct swap.

"Recommend" becomes relative against "low cost". Low cost is something that you'll need to balance against the possibility of burning a hole in a piston. The general recomendation is that you swap in a high flow fuel pump, larger injectors, and you'll need a piggyback box to be able to handle retarding the timing and increasing the fuel flow - figure a ballpark of $600-700, more if you need to pay someone to install it all. You should also do the deckplate mod, but that's about $10 so it's not a huge deal.

20k is just under the halfway point for the recommended 50k rebuild of a 2nd gen S/C. So "in general", you won't _need_ a rebuild.

btw, there's a lot of info here on the forum about what "we" think is required for a S/C setup...

GET IT!!

im sure info will flood in about fuel mods...and im sure youve seen threads before....

to simplify for you:

its recommended you do some fuel mods, which will cost a little bit. but overall, its an awesome mod that youll love everyday. its the best way to get more power for our 4runners.

i definately think you should get it!

It's definately worth to supercharge your rig. I am from Hong Kong & have a 2002 Toyota Prado with the same V6 3.4L 5vzfe engine. Bought a brand new s/c'r from trdparts4u at $1899, TRD header at $750, deck plate mod & ISR. Power increase is awesome . I just received the URD fuel upgrade kit & will install it next month. May be I will consider the cam mod as well cuz I don't want to squeeze out more power by using smaller s/c'r pulley. Will somebody do a tech write up here on s/c'r & fuel upgrade kit? This is a wonderful site with loads of tech info & advices. You need some patient to search through all the threads & extract the essences little by little & combine them in a way to suit your need. Thank you yotatech

Ummm... In terms of just doing the swap? Nothing really, if the engine's the same, then it's all gonna come straight off of one and onto the other.

Don't forget the checkvalve that sits in a vacuum line - it's a white circle. You'll also want a pair of tin snips around - when you pull the intake off of your truck, it's likely that the throttle body intake gasket is "D" shaped, and you'll want to trim that out to be a circle. It'll make sense when you look at it.

The install manual is here. Go through it and it should help.

In terms of other things that you should have ready for your truck before you do this, then yeah... my list above. A Walbro 190 (fuel pump), larger injectors, and a piggyback fuel/timing controller.

i know i can do the swap but some people have told me the engine in my truck wouldnt stand up to the supercharger because of the high mileage and the trans would probably unfold too but some have told me it wouldnt hurt it
