Stupid 14 year old plastic!!!

So my headlights bit the dust, and I got all excited because I was able to pick up some silverstars. Well I go to loosen the grill to get better acess to the screws and SNAP!! broke the plastic mounting clip. Went on to the next clip, SNAP!! Now I have no clips to hold my grill on!
Not to mention the retaining screws are rusted in and my truck is sitting in the work parking lot looking at me and . Guess thats what happens when you think something is going to be easy. I'll wait till lunch for the penetrating oil to work its magic.

I hate it when that happens. The worst feeling when working on a car is breaking something else! Been there, done that!

You say your world has gone to pieces..
Things just fell apart
You want to put things back together
But you don't know where to start.
Well I got your solution,
The stuff you need to use
It's a thing called ductape
There ain't nuthin' it can't do.

You say the world has gone to pieces..
What's a poor boy s'posed to do?
I'm just holdin' things together now
Singin' the ductape blues.

The Russian guy here at work came out and saw what I was doing and said he had some clips at home and he would bring some to me after lunch.
he has a fly by night car repair buisness on the side.

can you get the clips from toyota? i'm missing a couple on one side of my '79. back when i had my '84, i think i only had 2 or 3 clips still in the whole grille, so i just zip tied them, but i'd like a little more elegant solution here

The rest of them broke off.

Happens to everyone with that grill. I know about half of mine are broken. They were like that when I got it. Same with my 89 pickup. Just to make you feel better.

I broke several of those on my '90 Extracab I had before the 4Runner, and I have broke a few on the 4Runner too.

They are very easy to break for sure.
Not one of Toyota's best designs.
