yeah way too much hype over all this snow. im sittin here in kirkland at 6:30am and its barely snowing and isn't even sticking, yet shoreline community college is closed? how is school being closed gonna help me when there is no snow here to do doughnuts in? and i agree about how the news people here wig out about anything and everything, but hey at least it kept briteny spears, micheal jackson and the crock hunter off the air a little bit more. thats not news! i guess thats why i never watch the news anymore.

Well, 7:20 AM in Seattle and snow is coming down pretty good. I live in Magnolia on the hill, where they usually shut the roads down in bad weather due to the steepness. I'm going to have to get to work early to avoid the bonehead drivers, thankfully I'm living only 3 miles from work....

dang it dang it dang it!!!! The colleges up here in Bellingham are notorious for NEVER closing. Almost every school/college/university is closed in western Washington. Of course Whatcom Community College(where I go) and Western Washington University are both open and on time. Well, a lot can happen between now and 11:30AM(first class). I guess I have to jump in the shower so I can get off to work! We are supposed to get 2-8" up here. Hopefully 8"!!! No new snow yet but it is definately icy!

TV weather forcasters over react

They always do.

It's coming down here, but I doubt I will see the "biggest snow storm since '96" here today.

Only have about an inch here if that now.
The pic above was taken at 8 am.

I don't know where you live but it's snowin' like a mother here! All of the B'ham School District schools are closed today. Snow Day!

I just hope the Tech College is closed too, otherwise I'll have to drive my daughter to school at 5pm and I think it'll be pretty ugly by then.

In my neighborhood an inch on the ground more than qualifies as the biggest since '96.

Ok, now that I'm downtown...things are different. The roads are very slick...I just slid down a blocks-worth of hill (on my feet). Damn, this is fun.

Glad I took the bus though, I don't need inexperienced drivers running into me.

KING5 had a reporter driving around downtown earlier this morning, for some stupid reason they turned down one of the steep hills and witnessed two cars slide and hit right in front of them, then as they were manuvering around the accident they proceeded to slide into one of the two cars. All on live television.

Yeah, we're having lots of "fun" down here too. I live at the west end of the Columbia River Gorge, so 35 mph winds, 17 degrees (-2 windchill).

The dry snow is swirling around like a blizzard...almost looks like winter!

Must be time to get the runner out and go have some fun.

Its hard getting much work done, since no one else is here. I'm tempted to leave early to avoid the madness around 5:00. Jessica's bus didn't show up this morning, so she just went home.

Well class was almost empty. They are closing down the college at 3:00 PM. So now I'm back at work for the rest of the day. I've gotten quite a few weird looks for driving with chains. But I've also seen tons of cars and trucks sliding all over the place. So no problems here.

The UW Seattle campus canceled classes after 12:30 and staff was conditionally released, I sent my minion home at noon. Called in sick this morning myself, got a cold.

Well, the roads officially suck- nearly got into two accidents trying to get home, and saw a couple happen. I ended up having to park at the bottom of Magnolia hill and walk up to my apt. The locker and 4-low low didn't help a bit. Vehicles were losing traction halfway up, then gravity carried them alllll the way back to the bottom. I saw a full-size pickup bounce off two parked cars. I worked my way back down the hill, found a nice flat side street where I wouldn't likely be hit while parked, and trudged up the hill. Chains probably would have helped a bit.....

Yep, lockers won't help a bit. In fact, they can be mighty unpredictable in slick conditions.

What did you air down to?

Went out to play around a little and got to winch out a Heep that slid backwards into a ditch.

Honestly, I didn't try airing down. My big fear was that there wasn't any room for failure- the street is steep enough that once you started to slide, it was game over. After seeing those two accidents happen, it was just safer to walk the two blocks. On my way up, I saw another two vehicles lose traction and ride the curb all the way down. I'll definitely be airing down tomorrow before heading off to work though. I might try to get my vehicle up into my parking lot tonight if I get a chance.
