Most of you know that I was lucky enough to win the drawing for the Stubbs sliders. I received them on Friday, August 29 via UPS. I am very impressed with the workmanship of the sliders and the level of service provided by Richard (Stubbs Welding). They fit perfect! I would highly recommend Stubbs Welding to anyone.

After much thought and research about who was going to put the sliders on, I decided to go with the shop that installed my exhaust for $35 (labor); Madhatter Muffler and Brakes of Phoenix. Their prices are the best around, and they let you in the shop while they are welding. They charged me $65 flat to install the sliders. Can’t beat that! Every welder I called either said, “What the heck are those?” or “Well, I can try it, but there will be a minimum $100 charge plus another hour of labor.” Fly N High Off-Road Center of Phoenix wanted $125 “or so” to do it, plus tax. A couple other guys here on the boards were going to hook me up, but most of them live too far away, or our schedules did not match.

I must say I really love how they look, and I really enjoy the door ding protection. Of course the off-road protection is excellent, but I don’t plan on mashing on them while wheelin’. The only drawback is a slightly longer reach with your outside leg to get out. But that’s no big deal. After they were welded on, I wiped them with Acetone, sanded them, wiped them again with Acetone, then painted them black (2 coats) and then hit them with Ultra Clear topcoat. Here are the pics:

I was planning on painting mine before welding but now I think I'll paint mine afterwards

 

Those look hella nice. How much do those run for those of us who didn't pay off the admins? Err... I mean for those of us who weren't lucky enough to win...

So why did you paint them after they were welded on? I figure it would be easier to do it when they are unattached?

 

Only reason why I would paint after they were welded is so of the slider is protected.
Painting beforehand leaves a 2 1/2" bit of exposed metal for the welder.

Also, have you seen his garage???

I'm guessing the fact that the weld is also the same color as the rest of the slider has a little part to play in it

I think they look horrible. Cut them off right away and send them to me. I'll be glad to get rid of them for you.

 

Yeah, remind you're wife/girlfriend when getting out of the vehicle. Mine got a nice swipe of mud across the back of her jeans the first time she hopped out of the vehicle. ... she wasn't very happy

 

I don't know. It seems like one of those things that girls just have to learn on their own...

Yeah, my wife has figured out the dirt on the sliderz thing. I told her not to scuff them with her 3" clogs, so she is already used to it.

I painted the sliders after install for a few reasons:

1. The guys at Madhatter like to set them down abruptly :pat:
2. I didnt have enough time or paint before the install
3. I am comfortable masking my truck off and spraying

Right on! I am glad you like them. I have been having many computer related problems lately which included the complete crash down of our website & loss of our DSL aarrrrggggg- makes for a screwed up week.

I was just thinking there are alot of people on this board who have our sliders , and we dont have any "reviews" of them anywhere. I have been told one will be up on TTORA but have yet to see it.
The website looks pretty good (many thanks to my wife) , and although it is not completely finished it will still give people most of the information they need.
