sticky caliper?

Ok guys..I am having a brake issue.

My right caliper is sticking. I greased the pins when I redid the pads and they are still sticking. Its to the point where they will lock up when I get close to a stop. Its annoying me! Do i need new calipers or what?

I say yes, or at least a rebuild. That big round cylinder you had to push back in to get the new pads on is not sliding back into place after you left off the peddle. So the bolts are not effecting the problem.

rebuild or replace.

You should get to it soon, or you will be buying a new rotor also. Heat will build up with it rubbing and worp the rotor, or the pad will start digging in and scratching it up.

First make sure you used caliper grease on those guide pins, not just regular old grease for thos pins (regular grease can't take the heat that brakes produce). How hard was it to compress the pistons? If it was even the least bit difficult to compress them, you should replace the caliper (you can get a rebuild kit but results may vary and I wouldn't want to have to go bleeding everything twice).

BTW...there are multiple pistons on the caliper:

i'm having the same issue with my right front caliper. it was pulling hard right, and upon inspection, the top inside piston was frozen solid. took me 3 minutes and a broken c-clamp handle and breaker bar to get it to compress enough to drive it until it get's replaced.

thankfully, that caliper had been replaced about 3 years ago, and the shop that did it uses carquest parts. luckily, carquest has lifetime warranty on all their calipers. saved me another $120 for a new caliper...again.

i say replace it with lifetime warranty parts, and be done with it.

Grabbing/binding brakes as you come to a stop seems to be an issue here on the board. I had that problem about 14 months ago and thought it was a rear brake shoe. It began happening in cold weather and I couldn't find the problem and then it went away on it's own. Do a search. I recall a few members finding corrosion to be the culprit for them.

It is probably not the cause of the sticking but don't use axle grease on brake parts.
There is a high temp brake grease available at most auto part stores just for that purpose.
