Steering column moves sideways?

For my 97 4Rynner SR5, auto, 3.4L, 4x4, is the steering column supposed to move a little when pushing it sideways? Is it the free-play? There is no signs of vibration when driving, though. Any comments or suggestions? Thanks.

Is the column moving or just the wheel. If it really is the column look under the dash and there should be a bracket attaching the column to the body. Check that it hasn't come loose.

Thanks for reply. It is the column that moves. I will have a check under dash.

I agree, I think the column is loose under the dash.
You're not talking about the steering wheel adjuster are you?

What is the steering wheel adjuster? Will it affects my normal driving when the column moves just a little bit sideways? Thanks.

Steering column moves sideways?

The column is held up by a bracket to the dash frame , I beleive there are four bolts or two. If all bolts came loose, you'll have the column on your lapp,Making it a little hard to drive. You need to check into this now.
