starting problems

for the past week my 96 3.4 4x4 4runner hasn't been starting correctly. I turn the key on average 10-15 times it makes a click noise and the lights and everything comes on it just doesnt start. Then after the 10-15 times it would start right up. I took it in to the mechanic thinking it was the starter but it started right up for the mechanic. They tested the alternator, starter, and battery and everything checked out. I hate every time I take it in it doesnt do what it was doing. Any ideas???

My 4Runner did this a few years ago. It was the contacts on the starter. A rebuild kit for the starter contacts is pretty cheap and pretty easy to install.

Straight jump the starter from another truck, if it turns over right away then you know its the battery, positive-negative leads from the battery or the solenoid

i was thinking the starter contacts too. How exactly would I fix this is there a write up anyone knows about? The battery terminals are clean and tight. If it is the solenoid how would I go about fixing that?
