starter soleinoid contact part #s

Just finished replaceing the battery side contact in the '98 3.4L 4runner-motor side was fine. Only removed the wheel (not necessary) and rear skidplate for access. The battery side contact lists for $6.32, and the motor side $11.89 at the dealer.

Battery side contact Toyota P# 28226-54340

Motor side contact Toyota P#28226-72080

Thanks to all for the write ups. Wish I'd known about this fix before I bought a reman. starter for my '93 truck a couple of years ago...

A TTORA guy (Boo) has a great write-up here also:
Starter Rebuild

He just finished it, so if you see something you think he should change/add, he is receptive to feedback.

Best bet is to follow some of the diagnostic tests on my web page (link below). Specifically see if you can test the voltage at the solenoid control wire and see if there is a difference between when it works and doesn't. If the voltage is not within 1/2 volt of the battery voltage, then you may have a problem upstream of the starter/solenoid. If the voltage is solid, then it is likely inside the solenoid, a quick peek at the contacts inside the solenoid would #1 confirm, they are worn and #2 which shape contacts you need to replace:

Nice write up 4crawler

Yours was the best I found, and was all I needed to solve this little problem. Kind of impressed the wife in the process
