Starter Repair sucks and one smoking question

Well my starter completly died yesterday due to the contacts. I was turning the key numerous ties (maybe 50) to try to get it to crank so I could get home. After it finally cranked it poured black blue thick exaust from the tail pipe. Also the engine gurgled ande choked. Was this due to the injectors leting in a little fuel at each turn of the key?

ps whoever designed the 3.0 needs to be tortured slowly for the pain we go through to replace simple things as the starter.

starter replacement

Ah yes, I remember the day last winter when I tackled mine. I was on the verge of lighting the entire house on fire just to watch the truck slowly burn to nothing more than a rusted out shell I got my old starter completely unbolted, all the cables un hooked and was really trying to figure out how to get the F#$$ing thing out from its tight little spot. Well after about a half an hour " I didn’t take a look at the book " and about 3 blood vessel explosions later, my girl friend came out to the garage to see how I was making out. Needless to say I was in about the same shape as Jack Nicholson in The Shining. She got down and peered in between the passenger side tire and where I was working and said, hey do those bolts undo a cover for the starter or something???? I said WHAT BOLTS, WHAT COVER WHERE!! Well to make a small story short read the book and if I ever have to opportunity to meet the engineers that thought up the design of not just my Toyota but my Miata and my New Beetle I will hit them, hard many many times then I will WTF and WHY!!!!!!!!!!! Just my Monday morning .02

The starter on my 83 is a piece of cake. I helped my father in law put a starter in an 89 with a 22RE and I would also like to find the person who put it in there and torture them slowly with a pair of pliers and a torch.

I mean really think about it Why did they have to do it the way they did? As many other cars out there that are so simple and of course we love the one that everything is a pain in the ass.
