Starter Just clicks!

Starter Just clicks!
I've done a search and I think I've come up with my best bet, which is just to replace the starter.
What do you folks think it is?
Everything lights up in the truck, no dead battery issues.
The cables are brand new. The starter just clicks and doesn't do anything until after about 10-15 tries. Then it finally gets the urge to start and while in motion, it doesn't sound like its strugging.
Some type of connection issue? I'm not good with electrical and things like that, but I can figure out that my battery isn't dead or dying.
thanks for any help guys

Starter contacts are bad. a good way to check is to have some one turn the key to the start position and take a hammer or other hard object and tap on the starter solenoid, the upper part of the starter assembly. They can be replaced but you have to be careful and might have to go to the dealer to get the parts. or, just replace the starter like you said. check all connections at the starter as well.

x3. Do a search for "starter clicks" and you will find 100000 threads saying to replace the contacts.
Whatever you do, do NOT REPLACE the starter, rebuild it. Parts store starters are JUNK.

Sounds like the contacts as well.
On mine however, its just really slowing down. I would assume contacts, but, if I were to get that thing out, replace them, and put it back in, and it still didn't work, I'd be pissed.

I concur that it is the contacts. I made the mistake of going to the stealer to buy the contacts. I was quoted around $16 which seemed like a rip but I bought them anyway. Upon inspection of the purchase, I noticed there was only 1 contact in the bag. I went back to the parts counter and inquired about the other contact. Well, I had to cough up around $17 for the other contact. They are sold separately.
That was the first time I had bought anything from the stealer in around 8 years and will probably be at least that long before I ever go back...

Had the same problem in mine about 6 months ago. Easy to replace the contacts. I would go ahead and replace the plunger that hits the contacts as well since you will have to pull it to get to the contacts anyway

As noted, likely to be the starter solenoid contacts, but a simple test you can do to be sure:

make sure you use some padded mechanic's gloves if you take out the starter yourself for repair, its in a tight spot, you will beat your hands up without the gloves and the right tools

You guys are awesome! I really appreciate all of your help. With so many people telling me it's the contacts and not the starter itself, it's really hard to think you all are wrong!
Again I thank you guys for your help and resources! I know what my next step is, and that's to save me a few bucks and go with the contact kit instead haha!

ya, ive beat my hands up quite a bit doing my starter. ive done it 3 times, and i have a couple scars. plus doing it in the desert heat with the sun beaming down on you with it like 115 degrees doesnt help either.. lol. but yes, replace the contacts, unless its an autocrap one, then take it back and get a brand new one. eventually you will get a good one.

Yeah...wish I knew that a couple weekends ago. SIMPLE repair though, other than the tight spot. I'm mechanically retarded and it only took me about 45 minutes.
